What real NZ Customs messages look like
- Official emails always end in
@customs.govt.nz - Customs does not contact individuals to pay duty via text or email links
- Legitimate duty is usually paid through your freight forwarder or broker
- Report suspected fraud confidentialy to 0800 WE PROTECT (0800 937 768)
Common spoof patterns
- "Parcel held: Pay outstanding customs duty" SMS with a payment link
- "Shipping documentation required" emails with malicious attachments
- Fake "Refund notification" from Customs asking for bank details
