What real NZTA messages look like

  • Genuine emails come from nzta.govt.nz, enews.nzta.govt.nz, or reply.nzta.govt.nz
  • Genuine registration emails will always include your vehicle-specific expiry date
  • NZTA toll notices do not include attachments
  • They will never ask for your credit card details via a text message link

Common spoof patterns

  • "Your vehicle registration is expiring: Renew now" SMS with a fake payment link
  • "Overdue Toll: Immediate payment required" phishing texts
  • Emails using lookalike domains (nzta-reg.com, waka-kotahi-gov.nz)
