What real NZTA messages look like
- Genuine emails come from
nzta.govt.nz,enews.nzta.govt.nz, orreply.nzta.govt.nz - Genuine registration emails will always include your vehicle-specific expiry date
- NZTA toll notices do not include attachments
- They will never ask for your credit card details via a text message link
Common spoof patterns
- "Your vehicle registration is expiring: Renew now" SMS with a fake payment link
- "Overdue Toll: Immediate payment required" phishing texts
- Emails using lookalike domains (nzta-reg.com, waka-kotahi-gov.nz)
