Dodgy Netflix email doing the rounds

A phishing email using the subject "There's an issue with your account" is impersonating Netflix and pushing you to review billing details through a newly registered sender domain.

You could receive an email with the subject line "There's an issue with your account" from the cavelusa.com domain, dressed up as a Netflix notice. It tells you your subscription has expired and urges you to review or update your account information within 72 hours so you can keep using the service. The aim is to make you click quickly before you stop to check whether it is genuine.

What makes this tricky is that the message can pass normal email checks, so it may look legitimate at first glance. But the sender domain has only recently been registered and has no established history as a trusted business sender, which is a strong warning sign for a brand like Netflix. If the message includes a reply address that does not match the sender you can see, any response could go somewhere completely different from where you expect.

The attacker is after your login details and possibly your payment information. If you click through and enter anything, you could hand over access to your account and expose stored card details or personal information. The same details are often reused elsewhere, which can turn one rushed click into wider account compromise for your business.

The domain the message claims to be from. Fresh registrations and known-bad reputations are the strongest technical tells of a spoofed sender.

Recommended Action

Practical steps you or your IT provider can take to reduce the risk from this kind of threat.

  • Check: Confirm whether any staff received a Netflix or account issue email from an unfamiliar domain before anyone clicks or replies.
  • Verify: Open Netflix or any other service directly from your saved bookmark or official app, never from the email link.
  • Do not: Enter passwords, payment details, or MFA codes after following an email about urgent account problems.
  • Report: Mark the message as phishing in Microsoft 365 and escalate it to your IT provider for review.
  • Contact Decision1: If you believe your business has been targeted, contact the Decision1 team immediately.
